UVA men’s basketball releases 2018-19 non-conference schedule

For upon |UVA men’s basketball announced its 2018-19 non-conference schedule Wednesday (Aug. 1). The non-conference slate features seven regular-season games at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Battle 4 Atlantis bracket, which includes an opening game vs. Middle Tennessee (Nov. 21), and Virginia’s ACC/B1G Challenge contest at Maryland (Nov. 28) had previously been announced.

Middle Tennessee posted a 25-8 mark last season and advanced to the second round of the NIT. Other teams in the Battle 4 Atlantis field UVA could face include Florida, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Stanford, Butler and Dayton. The Gators, Bulldogs and Sooners earned NCAA Tournament berths in 2018.

Virginia hosts Towson in its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6 before welcoming George Washington (Nov. 11) and Coppin State (Nov. 16) to JPJ.

The Cavaliers entertain Morgan State (Dec. 3) and in-state rival VCU (Dec. 9) before traveling to South Carolina for a road clash on Dec. 19.

UVA defeated VCU 76-67 last season in Richmond behind Kyle Guy’s career-high 29 points. The Cavaliers meet the Gamecocks for the first time since an NIT meeting in 2002. South Carolina advanced the NCAA Final Four in 2017.

Virginia completes its non-conference regular-season slate with home games against William & Mary (Dec. 22) and Marshall (Dec. 31). The Thundering Herd went 27-11 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Game times and TV designations for the non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.

As previously announced, UVA’s ACC schedule includes home-and-home matchups with Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers will only host Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh, while only playing road games at North Carolina, Clemson, NC State, Syracuse and Boston College. Dates for the ACC contests will be announced at a later date.
