San Jose police officer hit by a car while making arrests at the sideshow
San Jose Airport Costa Rica: For upon|SAN JOSE – A police officer was injured overnight Sunday while making arrests at a sideshow that drew hundreds of people, according to multiple media reports.
The San Jose police officer suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK, according to ABC7.
Hundreds of people were involved in the sideshow overnight, which occurred on Hostetter Road near Interstate 680, according to ABC7. Police issued several citations, made multiple arrests, and impounded several cars.
“When you’re out on public streets doing donuts or excessive speed and so forth you run the risk of losing control of the vehicle and crashing into other vehicles or pedestrians,” San Jose Police Department Lt. Brian Anderson told ABC7.
San Jose police made some arrests, though it was not immediately clear how many people were taken into custody. Police also issued citations and impounded cars, according to ABC7.
Officers also responded to reports of street racers and sideshows in the area of Tully Road and Capitol Expressway as well as Aborn Road and Capitol Expressway, according to NBC Bay Area.
Police say the driver who hit the officer fled the scene and has not been identified or arrested.
“It was a deliberate act,” Garcia said. “This guy ran into one of our officers and fled the scene.”
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver, who was behind the wheel of a maroon or brown two-door Nissan 240SXE coupe.
