Celebrity Same-Sex Couples That Inspire Relationship Goals
For upon |On 17 May 2004, Massachusetts became the first jurisdiction in the USA to recognize and license same-sex marriages. In 2013, many celebrity couples supported the news that California’s Proposition 8 and The Defense of Marriage Act were both fells. Fast forward to 26 June 2015, and the US Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling that, finally, homosexual couples had a constitutional right to get married. Neil and David are still going strong
One of the most inspiring same-sex celeb couples of our time is undoubtedly Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka. As soon as the gay marriage equality bill was passed in New York back in 2012, the couple tweeted about their engagement. Interestingly enough, the happy couple, who are also doting dads to twins, were secretly engaged for five years already at the time. Prior to getting married in September 2014, both Neil and David were seen sporting engagement rings. While up to 49% of gay couples exchange engagement rings, the trend has also inspired many heterosexual men to wear engagement rings in a variety of styles and finishes as a symbol of their long term commitment to their relationship.
Ellen and Portia are a match made in heaven
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for power same-sex couple Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. Ellen experienced some backlash after coming out as a lesbian in 1997, and Portia had the details of her relationship with director Francesca Gregorini plastered all over the tabloids while she was part of the ensemble cast of the acclaimed TV show, Ally McBeal. The couple, who first met backstage at the 2004 VH1 awards, got married in 2008, and have inspired us with their beautiful love story ever since. Although both Ellen and Portia continue to enjoy successful careers, their main focus remains firmly on each other.
Everyone loves Jim and Todd
Sheldon Cooper is without a doubt one of the most beloved TV show characters in history. When Jim Parsons, the actor who portrays the role of the most eclectic character in The Big Bang Theory, came out in 2010, the hearts of many women undoubtedly broke. Seeing how much love Jim and his husband Todd Spiewak have for each other, however, is nothing short of inspiring. The couple first met in 2002 when they were set up on a blind date by mutual friends. It was only after dating for more than a decade that the couple gave their first interviews together at the 2013 Respect Awards, which honors members of the LGBT community. The couple finally wed in May 2017, and continue to be the epitome of relationship goals.
The world has been blessed with a myriad of very inspirational same-sex celebrity couples. While same-sex relationships are by no means as controversial as they were decades ago, long-term, celebrity relationships continue to inspire others to celebrate the love they have found.
