The Meteorological Agency claims the Shinmoedake volcano erupted violently several times Tuesday, popping up ash and smoke around 2,three hundred meters (7,500 ft) in its greatest explosion since 2011. It said some lava was mounting from within a crater on the volcano.
The volcano, seen from the 1967 James Bond film “You Only Live Twice,” has experienced smaller eruptions since past 7 days.
Entry towards the one,421-kilometer (4,660-foot) -high volcano was restricted. About eighty flights out and in on the close by Kagoshima airport ended up canceled.
Japan has a hundred and ten lively volcanoes.
