Smoking driver causes fire, crash in Shanghai, police say; pedestrians hurt

Not less than eighteen people had been hospitalized Friday early morning following a minivan plowed into pedestrians within a chaotic section of downtown Shanghai, Chinese state media noted.

Shanghai police said they believe the crash was accident and not an attack. They said the motive force was cigarette smoking when transporting gasoline tanks.

Three people have been seriously injured given that the car swerved onto a sidewalk and strike pedestrians outside a Starbucks cafe near People’s Park while in the city’s money hub all-around nine a.m., the city governing administration stated on its social media account.

The van was reportedly carrying six travellers and several gas tanks. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
